Atlus Clarifies: Persona 4 Revival's Aika Is Not a Social Link

Did you get excited when Atlus announced a brand-new Social Link for Persona 4 Revival? Well, hold your horses—it turns out that was a mistake. Atlus has officially clarified that Aika Nakamura, the fan-favorite character from Persona 4: The Animation, is not a Social Link after all. Instead, she's something called a "Location Episode Character." Bummer, right?

Let's rewind. Last week, during the Persona 4 Revival broadcast, Atlus dropped what seemed like a huge surprise: Aika Nakamura, daughter of the Aiya Restaurant owner (you know, the place with the Rainy Day Mega Beef Bowl Challenge), would be a new Social Link. For fans, this was massive—Aika only gets a mention in Persona 4 Golden, so actually seeing her in the remake felt like a dream come true. Plus, after producer Kazuhisa Wada said adding Yosuke's cut romance option would be too much work, a whole new Social Link seemed a bit contradictory. But hey, Atlus works in mysterious ways, right?

Well, not this time. Atlus West took to Twitter to set the record straight: "We want to correct one key detail from the English language version of the Persona Broadcast that listed Aika Nakamura as a new Social Link. Aika is indeed a Location Episode Character and not a Social Link." They also apologized for the confusion. So there you have it—no new Social Link for Aika. At least not in the traditional sense.

So what exactly is a Location Episode Character? If you played Persona 3 Reload, you might remember Linked Episodes. Those were added to give male party members their own pseudo-Social Link scenes, since they didn't have them in the original game. Location Episodes seem to be Persona 4 Revival's equivalent. The good news? Linked Episodes in P3 Reload rewarded you with new Personas, so hopefully Location Episodes will do the same. Fingers crossed!

For now, Aika is the only character confirmed to have a Location Episode. That leaves plenty of room for speculation—who else might get one? Personally, I'm hoping Funky Student makes the cut. And hey, remember when the Persona 4 Revival lead said Atlus wanted "a whole new cast," but one actor is reprising his role from the OG JRPG anyway? "True!" So there's still plenty to look forward to.
