Sony's PS Portal is back in the spotlight with another firmware update, just two weeks after the last one. The streaming handheld's system software is now at version 7.3.0, and it's rolling out in phases. So if you don't see it yet, hang tight.
What's new? First up, there's a 3D audio toggle. You can now turn 3D audio on or off during gameplay by heading to Settings > System > 3D Audio. Handy if you want to switch things up on the fly.
Search also got a nice bump. Now when you type a keyword, you'll see real-time results as you type. Plus, you can scan a QR code to continue your PlayStation Store search on the PlayStation App or a web browser. No more typing on that small screen if you don't want to.
Sony also says it's polished some interface prompts and overall usability. Nothing major, but every little bit helps.
This follows the previous update from two weeks ago, which added an optional 80% charge limit to help protect your battery. That was a welcome addition for anyone worried about long-term battery health.
But here's the bigger picture: Sony seems to be paying a lot of attention to the PS Portal lately. And that's got people talking. There have been signs that a next-gen version of the streaming device might be on the way.
Rumors have been floating around that a new PS Portal could feature an OLED screen. That would be a serious upgrade for colors and contrast, but so far, nothing's been confirmed. Take it with a grain of salt for now.
Whatever Sony is cooking up, one thing's clear: current PS Portal owners are still getting regular updates and improvements. The frequency of these patches suggests Sony isn't abandoning the device anytime soon.
So, what do you think? Are you hoping for an OLED PS Portal, or are you happy with the current model? Let us know in the comments.
