Are you ready to boldly go where no Magic: The Gathering player has gone before? The Star Trek Universes Beyond set is coming in 2026, and if you're looking to get a head start on your collection, Amazon has already slashed the price on Play Booster boxes.
The Star Trek Play Booster Box is currently available for $170.61, down from its MSRP of $209.70. That's a 19% discount, saving you just over $39. Each box contains 30 packs, and every pack includes a foil card. At this price, you're paying about $5.68 per pack, compared to the usual $6.99. That's a savings of more than a dollar per pack.
This is especially notable because buying a box normally doesn't get you a bulk discount—you'd pay the full MSRP per pack. But with this deal, you're actually saving money by buying in bulk. Plus, Amazon's Preorder Price Guarantee means if the price drops further before launch, you'll automatically get the lowest price. The current deal is just shy of the all-time low of around $165 seen last week, so it could drop even more.
Now, a quick heads-up: Play Boosters aren't where you'll find the rarest cards. Those are more likely to appear in Collector Boosters, which cost around $40 each (when you can find them). But if your goal is to build decks or fill up a binder, Play Boosters are a great choice, especially at this discount.
Star Trek is the fourth Universes Beyond property in MTG's 2026 lineup, following Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Marvel Superheroes, and The Hobbit. While TMNT didn't make as big a splash as hoped, Marvel and The Hobbit have been well-received. Star Trek feels like a natural fit, especially after last year's Edge of Eternities. We haven't gone hands-on with the set yet—we're still enjoying Reality Fracture—but the early discount is a promising sign.
Magic's 2026 roadmap includes seven sets in total, and Star Trek is the final one of the year. If you're a Trek fan or just want to get a jump on the new cards, this preorder deal is worth considering. Remember, with the Preorder Price Guarantee, you're protected if the price falls further.
