Ever wished a game's weather could actually change how you play? Wardogs is about to grant that wish in a big way. When Season 2 drops on October 15, rain isn't just a visual filter—it's a full gameplay overhaul.
First off, this isn't dynamic weather. If a match has rain, it's raining from start to finish. No sunny breaks, no sudden storms. That means every match with rain plays out under constant downpour, which senior producer Kane Allard told IGN "completely changes the game." And he's not sugarcoating it: "It's going to be positive for some players. It's going to be negative for others. Your play styles might be affected. That's okay." He compares it to almost a different game mode—some will love it, some will hate it, but it definitely brings a lot.
So what actually changes? For starters, the map gets darker and your visibility takes a hit. One developer even admitted he lost his sense of direction because the map looked so different. Thunder during storms isn't just atmosphere—it can mask gunfire and other loud noises, giving you a tactical edge. Raindrops make distinct sounds depending on what they hit, from rooftops to helmets, so audio cues become way more important.
Windows will fog up, though it's unclear if that helps you stay hidden indoors. And destruction matters: if a roof gets destroyed, players inside are suddenly exposed to the rain. That's a whole new layer of risk when you're hunkering down.
As for other weather effects, Bulkhead isn't ruling anything out. But they have to weigh gameplay impact and performance. CEO Joe Brammer mentioned that nighttime would obviously bring flashlights, NVGs, and lasers—but that's not confirmed for now. Maybe one day, but it sounds like it'll take time.
Season 2 is shaping up to be a major shift for Wardogs. With rain, a new gambling mechanic, and even talk of a next-gen port, there's a lot on the horizon. Will you embrace the storm or avoid rainy matches altogether? Let us know in the comments!
