Troy Baker Teases Naughty Dog's Intergalactic: 'Minds Blown'

Ever wonder what happens when Naughty Dog decides to break its own rules? According to Troy Baker, the voice behind The Last of Us's Joel, you're about to find out. He's seen what's coming in Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet, and he says your mind won't survive the experience.

"I'm excited to see Intergalactic. You guys are going to have your minds blown," Baker said during a panel at Ottawa Comiccon earlier this month. He didn't stop there. "You are not ready," he repeated, adding, "It's so good. We finally just wrapped, as you saw, the cinematics." That cinematic wrap was announced by Naughty Dog at the end of August, when the studio called the shoot "very ambitious" and said it couldn't wait to show off the work "when the time is right."

It's been almost two years since Intergalactic was first announced, and we still know surprisingly little about it. But Naughty Dog boss Neil Druckmann confirmed this week that a full reveal is coming sometime next year. So while the wait continues, Baker's enthusiasm is at least something to hold onto.

Baker also had high praise for Druckmann's latest leading actor, Tati Gabrielle, who plays protagonist Jordan. He called her a "spiritual successor" to Ashley Johnson and her iconic portrayal of Ellie in The Last of Us. "There is so much about Jordan and that game of Intergalactic that feels like, man, I feel all of it. I feel Uncharted, I feel The Last of Us, I feel something new," Baker said. "They're testing the bounds of what that studio is capable of. And everything that I've seen, they are delivering. It's going to be incredible."

As for Baker's own role in the game? That's still a mystery. GQ reported shortly after Intergalactic's reveal that he'd be involved in some capacity, but Naughty Dog hasn't confirmed what that part looks like. Clearly, all will be revealed in due course.

In the meantime, Druckmann has also teased that new Last of Us projects have stories "worth telling," promising, "We wouldn't return to it unless we had something meaningful to say." So whether you're a Last of Us loyalist or just curious about what Naughty Dog does next, it sounds like the studio is cooking up something special.
