Did you catch all the hidden nods in Clive Barker's Hellraiser: Revival? As a massive horror fan, I dove in expecting a few winks to the franchise, but I was blown away by just how deep the references go. We're talking obscure '80s horror tributes, deep-cut comic lore, and even some heavy metal love. So grab your Lament Configuration and let's unpack 13 Easter eggs that made me do a double-take.
First up, that mattress at the very beginning? When you enter Hell for the first time, a mattress is quickly thrown in front of you before being yanked away by chains. It's a blink-and-you-miss-it moment, but it's almost certainly a nod to the first two Hellraiser movies, where mattresses serve as gateways to hell. In Hellraiser 2, Julia is resurrected via a mattress—and the game later replicates that with Sunny. Coincidence? I think not.
Then there's the dead detective with wires on his face. Near where you get your first gun, you'll find a body that looks a lot like Dr. Philip Channard after Leviathan gets ahold of him in Hellraiser 2. The wires cutting into his face are a clear homage to one of the best practical-effects moments of the '80s. It's a gruesome nod that'll make you wince and smile at the same time.
Ever meet the shopkeeper and wonder what her deal is? A document next to her reveals she's an Eremite—half-human, half-Cenobite beings who guard puzzle boxes and lure souls to Leviathan. We saw one in the first Hellraiser film, but they were only named in the comics, so this is a nice deep cut. The same note also mentions Orno, the Cenobite who creates new puzzles and is basically the parent of all Eremites. Orno never appeared in the movies, only in Epic Comics, so longtime fans will appreciate that nod.
Now, let's talk about the graveyard. After you escape the club, you can find Ozzy Osbourne's grave, complete with his iconic glasses, bat statues, and Black Sabbath-purple candles. The inscription reads: "Here lies our prince of darkness who raised hell then went back to his mother." Ozzy died in 2025, and since he co-wrote the song "Hellraiser" with Zakk Wylde and Lemmy Kilmister, this tribute hits extra hard. Right next to it, you'll spot Lemmy's iconic cowboy hat—another metal legend who co-wrote that same song and even did a version for the Hellraiser movie. It's a beautiful double tribute.
These are just a handful of the 13 Easter eggs I found, and I'm sure there are more lurking in the shadows. Whether you're a die-hard Hellraiser fan or just love a good hidden reference, Clive Barker's Hellraiser: Revival is packed with love for the franchise and beyond. So, what do you think? Did you spot any of these, or have you found others? Let us know in the comments!
