Did you hear that? That's the sound of Night City calling you back. Cyberpunk 2077 just hit its biggest Steam player peak since the Phantom Liberty expansion, and the reason is pretty obvious: Edgerunners Season 2 and a beefy new update.
At the time of writing, 187,215 players were roaming Night City on Steam alone. That's the highest peak since October 2023, when Update 2.0 and Phantom Liberty launched. And it's not just Steam—similar spikes are likely happening on GOG, Epic Games Store, PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and even Switch 2.
So what's fueling this resurgence? First, there's the new update that adds dual-wielding, fresh cosmetics, customizable cyberware fashion, more digital tourism, and a new story mission tied to Edgerunners. Second, the Netflix anime's second season premiered last week, and it's clearly pulling people back in. The first season was credited with helping revive the game after its rocky 2020 launch, and Season 2 is making a strong case for a return trip.
And if you haven't jumped in yet, the price is right: Cyberpunk 2077: Ultimate Edition is currently 70% off on Steam. That's a steal for one of the most improved games of the generation.
Compared to the first Edgerunners bump, this one's even bigger. Back in September 2022, after Season 1 launched, Steam numbers peaked at 136,724. Now we're well past that, showing just how much staying power the anime and the game's ongoing support have.
Meanwhile, CD Projekt Red is already looking ahead. Work on Cyberpunk 2 continues, and game director Gabe Amatangelo says the sequel is evolving beyond his original vision. So if you're loving Night City now, the future looks bright.
