What if the next big movie you watch features a surprise appearance from one of gaming's most iconic creators? Hideo Kojima just teased exactly that.
On a recent episode of the Koji10 podcast, the Metal Gear Solid and Death Stranding mastermind revealed he's already filmed a cameo in a "big" live-action movie. But he's staying tight-lipped on which one. "I already shot a few other things," Kojima said, according to translated captions. "Directors and others have asked me to." He even refused to say where he shot his part, so don't expect spoilers anytime soon.
The topic came up while Kojima reminisced about voicing a mole in Zootopia 2. That was behind-the-scenes work for the Japanese version, but this new project will put him in front of the camera. He described it simply as a "big movie" and confirmed it's live-action. Naturally, fans are already speculating. Some guess he'll pop up in Denis Villeneuve's Dune: Part 3 this December, while others bet on The Legend of Zelda movie or next month's Godzilla Minus Zero. One fan even joked, "Hideo Kojima will return in Avengers: Doomsday."
Kojima's love for cinema is no secret. His social media bio famously says "70% of my body is made of movies," and he regularly shares reviews of films like Superman, Backrooms, and Spider-Man: Brand New Day. So seeing him chase more screen time feels perfectly on brand.
But that's not all. Kojima also revealed he's involved in not one but two "major anime" projects. These are "really big" and will feature him with speaking lines, though he's keeping those under wraps too. Plus, he mentioned another secret game cameo, and fans have already spotted evidence he was scanned for Naughty Dog's Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet.
Meanwhile, Kojima Productions is hard at work on Physint, the espionage action game starring Bill Skarsgård. Kojima shared that many character names are decided and actors scanned. He's also still developing his horror game OD.
With so many irons in the fire, Kojima is everywhere—and we wouldn't have it any other way. Which movie do you think he'll show up in? Let us know your best guess!
