Ever wondered what happens when the Darkhold gets unleashed in the Magic: The Gathering universe? Well, you're about to find out. Wizards of the Coast has just announced Marvel: Darkhold Destiny, the next Marvel crossover set, and preorders are officially live.
The set is scheduled to launch on April 9, 2027, and you can already reserve your copies through local game stores, TCGplayer, Amazon, and other retailers. According to WOTC, "The world's greatest sorcerers conspired to keep the Darkhold sealed. But the dark side of the Marvel Universe has been unleashed!" That means we're getting devils, sorcerers, and vampire-hunting vampires—basically all the spooky Marvel goodness you can handle.
But here's the coolest part: Darkhold Destiny features an original story developed by WOTC in collaboration with Marvel. This narrative will introduce a brand-new original character and will be adapted into a special Marvel Comics release written by Jackson Lanzing and Collin Kelly. WOTC says, "This story was crafted by our Narrative team with Magic in mind, and we're thrilled to see it adapted by two of Marvel's most beloved writers." You'll follow a dimension-hopping adventure across the set, uncovering secrets of the Dark Dimension and teaming up with Marvel's pantheon of gods. The comic hits digital in February 2027, with a physical release in April.
So far, the only confirmed hero is Magik, the mutant sorceress you might know from Marvel Rivals or Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls. But WOTC promises plenty more "hotly anticipated" Marvel heroes and villains will make their MTG debuts. The set will include the main card set, Commander decks, Scene Boxes, and special collector-focused card designs.
The Commander precon options are Lords of Hel (red-black), Gods of Asgard (red-green-white), Strange Academy (white-blue-black), and Midnight Sons (white-black). WOTC has also developed new "Booster Fun treatments" and updated versions of designs from previous releases, so collectors of all things Marvel will have plenty to chase.
Darkhold Destiny is the latest in the growing partnership between Marvel and Magic: The Gathering. We've already seen the Marvel Spider-Man set in 2025 and Marvel Super Heroes in 2026, and now 2027 continues the collaboration. With preorders open, you might want to lock in your boxes early—these crossovers tend to sell out fast.
What do you think of the supernatural direction for this set? Will you be picking up any of the Commander decks? Let us know in the comments!
