Ever been in a situation where you have to leave behind one of the rarest drops in Diablo 4 just because you already have one in your inventory? That's exactly the frustration Season 15 players are facing with Splinters of Evil.
These splinters come in three types – Hatred, Terror, and Destruction – and Blizzard designed them so you can only hold one of each type at a time. They don't stack, period. For endgame players grinding the highest Torment tiers, this is a major pain point because splinters are incredibly rare. Imagine finally seeing one drop, only to realize you can't pick it up because your inventory already has one. That's enough to make anyone want to throw their mouse across the room.
But leave it to the Diablo community to come up with a solution. Prolific creator Rob2628 recently shared a workaround that, while tedious, lets you keep duplicate splinters. Here's how it works: you'll need at least one friend who's leveled enough to access Torment 10, where Splinters of Evil drop from bosses like Diablo, Mephisto, and Baal. Once you've got your duplicate splinter on the ground, invite your buddy to your party and have them stand near the loot. Then, switch to an alt character that doesn't already have that splinter type in their inventory. Your friend then invites your alt to the server, and you can pick up the splinter with your second character. Essentially, your friend is "holding the instance" so the item doesn't despawn when you log out. Just make sure they decline the prompt to return to their own world – otherwise, the whole thing falls apart.
Of course, this trick comes with a lot of strings attached. You need a high-level friend, coordination, and a bit of patience. Rob2628 even jokes in his video that "many of you don't have friends" anyway. And honestly, if you're like me and only have one character capable of reaching Torment 10, this workaround isn't even an option. Sometimes it's easier to just close the game and play something else.
Still, it's a clever fix for a problem that shouldn't exist in the first place. Blizzard hasn't commented on whether they'll change how splinters work, but for now, players are taking matters into their own hands – with a little help from their friends.
What do you think? Is this workaround worth the hassle, or should Blizzard just make splinters stack? Let us know in the comments!
