Lego Skylines: The City Builder Spin-Off You Didn't Know You Needed

Well, get ready to relive that nostalgia on a massive scale, because Paradox Interactive and Iceflake Studios just announced Lego Skylines, a spin-off of the beloved city builder Cities: Skylines. It was revealed at Gamescom Opening Night Live, and honestly, it's a genius idea.

So, what's the deal? You start with a single plot of land and build your dream house. From there, you expand to a neighborhood, and eventually, a sprawling metropolis—all made of Lego bricks. It's like Cities: Skylines, but with that satisfying snap of interlocking plastic.

But it's not just about building pretty structures. You'll need to manage the essentials: electricity, food, and water. Keep your citizens happy by constructing parks, museums, sports parks, and other amenities. It's the same city management depth you know and love, but with a playful Lego twist.

This announcement comes after a rocky start for Cities: Skylines 2, which faced performance issues at launch. Iceflake Studios stepped in to take over that game's development from Colossal Order, and now they're applying their expertise to this new spin-off. Director Lasse Liljedahl shared his excitement, saying that "most of us at Iceflake grew up building Lego sets." He's eager to create a city builder that's a "more personal experience," and that's exactly what this sounds like.

The high-level concept is a breath of fresh air. Lego tie-in games have been on a roll lately, with hits like Lego Voyagers, Lego Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight, and Lego Party. If Lego Skylines captures that same charm and quality, we're in for a treat.
