Stranger Than Heaven: RGG's New Action Game Lets You Run the Show

Ever dreamed of running a music empire in a video game? RGG Studio's Stranger Than Heaven is letting you do just that—alongside some seriously brutal combat. The decades-spanning action-adventure follows Makoto Daito through different eras of Japan, and it's not just about fists and fury. You'll also dive deep into the show business world, managing performances, producing music, and scouting talent.

Makoto has a unique ability: he can pick up sounds and seamlessly mix them into compositions. That talent eventually turns him into a showman—the guy responsible for organizing performances. But it's way more than slapping up posters and hoping people show up. You'll act as a producer, adjusting different instruments to completely change a track's mood. Once you've nailed the right version of a song, you'll need to scout singers and musicians to bring it to life. And to really hype the crowd, you can add effects like confetti and smoke.

Of course, it's still a business. Putting on a stellar show is great, but you need to turn a profit. So you'll have to balance creativity with cold hard cash. And believe it or not, there's even more: Makoto won't just be a passive observer in the audience—you'll be right in the thick of it.

If you're worried the music stuff means less action, don't be. You really can't have an RGG Studio title without some fisticuffs, and Stranger Than Heaven delivers. The combat is vicious, with more gore than either Yakuza or Judgment. So you'll get your fill of brutal brawls between managing shows.

The game launches on January 15th, 2027, for Xbox Series X/S, PS5, and PC. That's still a while away, but the in-depth look video gives you a taste of what's coming. It's a wild mix of action and management that only RGG could pull off.
