Ever loaded up a fighting game a month after launch and struggled to find a match? That's the reality for Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls players on PC right now. According to Steam Charts, the game currently has just 427 active players on Steam, with a 24-hour peak of 791. Its all-time peak sits at 13,787. Those numbers have the fighting game community buzzing—and not in a good way.
It's been over a month since Arc System Works' tag fighter dropped, and the discourse is everywhere. Some players love it, but many are frustrated with its tag system and online matchmaking. The excitement that greeted a new Marvel fighting game from the Guilty Gear and Dragon Ball FighterZ devs seems to have curdled into frustration for a chunk of the playerbase.
Sales data from Alinea Analytics paints a stark picture: 82% of copies sold on PlayStation, only 18% on Steam. Combined, the game has sold roughly 750,000 copies and generated an estimated $49.7 million in revenue. That's nothing to sneeze at—but the platform split tells a story. The PC port had a notoriously rough launch, and prominent streamer Maximilian Dood uninstalled it live on stream, a moment that went viral. A patch followed, but the producer admitted regaining trust would be tough, and director Kazuto Sekine later apologized.
Meanwhile, the game is thriving on PlayStation, which makes the PC situation sting more. But the debate isn't just about numbers. Guilty Gear pro Leffen tweeted: "Unless Tokon turns the game around gameplay wise by next patch, I'm gonna drop it." He added that he can't even get matches in EU and feels the serious playerbase is "maybe, at best, 1/10th of Strive's and 2XKO's here." He still thinks it's saveable if the devs act fast, but with no patch date and only four characters coming (also no date), he's pessimistic.
Others are more hopeful. YouTuber Mightykeef pointed out the game launched August 6—not even two months ago—and called the doom posting insane. Another player noted that UMVC3 didn't crack 600k in two months, and Marvel vs. Capcom 2 took years to become legendary. The game was also initially blocked in 132 countries due to PSN requirements, which didn't help.
So where does that leave Tokon? It's facing stiff competition from Street Fighter 6 and upcoming tag fighters like Invincible VS and Avatar Legends. The PlayStation success is real, but the PC exodus is hard to ignore. Will Arc System Works turn it around with the next patch, or is this ship already sailing? What do you think—is Tokon saveable, or is it doomed? Let us know in the comments.
