This price cut is part of Nintendo's Customer Appreciation Sale, which wraps up on Saturday, September 26. So if you've been waiting for a reason to dive in, this is it. After that date, you'll likely be paying full price again.

For those who missed it, Metroid Prime Remastered launched in 2023 as an updated version of the 2002 GameCube classic. And it wasn't just a lazy port. Our own review gave it a perfect 10/10, with Sam Claiborn writing that it "goes above and beyond the typical coat-of-paint remaster by adding modern controls along with fabulously improved models and textures." He called it a perfect example of honoring a classic while bringing it up to modern standards.

I couldn't agree more. Despite growing up loving Super Metroid on SNES and the 2D handheld games, I never actually played Metroid Prime until this remaster dropped. It instantly became one of my favorite games in the series. The upgrades make it feel like a modern release, and it's an absolutely killer FPS that takes everything great about 2D Metroid, giant bosses, lonely atmosphere, upgrade-gated progress, and blows it up into 3D. It's easily one of the best first-person shooters ever made, and it's still incredibly fun to play today.

My only real complaint? The lack of fast travel, which some developers still insist on. I also struggled to find all the Chozo artifacts on my own and ended up using a guide to track down the ones I missed before the finale. But overall, it's a joy from start to finish.

If you were disappointed by Metroid Prime 4: Beyond, I'd bet good money you'll like this one better. And if you're hyped for Metroid Ravenous, this remaster will hold you over until it arrives next year. Just remember, physical collectors can save on plenty of other Switch games right now, but not this one. Plenty of other Metroid titles do make the cut, though.
