Final Fantasy 7 Revelation: 100-Hour Runs and Tons of New Game Plus Content

Director Naoki Hamaguchi says the finale of the FF7 remake trilogy packs so much that one playthrough can't show it all, with runs easily topping 100 hours.

Get ready to clear your calendar, because Final Fantasy 7 Revelation is shaping up to be an absolute time sink. Director Naoki Hamaguchi took the stage at Tokyo Game Show 2026 and confirmed that the final chapter of the remake trilogy is stuffed with content you simply can't see in a single playthrough.

How much content are we talking? A single run through the main story is already comparable in length to Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth. But on top of that, Revelation has quests, story branches, and rewards that are structurally locked behind subsequent playthroughs. So your second run isn't just a victory lap, it's a whole new layer of the game.

Here's the interesting part: the game still heads toward one definitive ending. Your choices along the way won't change how the story wraps up, but they will change how you approach the game, where side quests go, and even some narrative details. Hamaguchi explained that the team wanted to give players more freedom, letting different choices unlock different missions and interaction scenes. The goal is to make New Game Plus feel like discovery rather than repetition.

Not everyone wants to grind, though, and the devs know it. Revelation will offer an optional auto-leveling system. When you're about to enter a new area, the game will ask if you want to bump your characters up to the recommended level. Say yes, and you can skip the leveling and side content and just mainline the story. It's a direct response to feedback from Rebirth, where some players felt the leveling curve was a chore. On top of that, beating the story unlocks chapter select, so you can go back and mop up anything you missed.

As for how long it all takes, Hamaguchi has previously estimated that a full completionist run, checking every single element, "easily exceeds 100 hours." He should know: he's personally finished the game 46 times during development. That's not a typo. Forty-six full playthroughs.

One practical note before you preload: Revelation is expected to clock in at around 200GB. The physical version will require an additional download on every platform before you can play.

Final Fantasy 7 Revelation is headed to PC, PS5, Switch 2, and Xbox Series X|S. So, are you planning to mainline the story first or dive straight into everything? Let us know in the comments.
