Did you see this coming? NBA 2K27 has officially dunked on Resident Evil Requiem to become the best-selling game of 2026 in the US so far. According to Circana's Mat Piscatella, the basketball sim shot past Capcom's survival horror hit in September, taking the year-to-date crown.
Piscatella noted that eight of the top ten best-selling games in September were new releases, but it was NBA 2K27 that stood out by surpassing Requiem. While Marvel's Wolverine was the month's best-seller, 2K's latest scored the bigger overall victory. It's not exactly a shock—the NBA 2K series is a perennial top-five seller in the US, right alongside Madden NFL. Call of Duty has also dominated for years, though recent titles like Hogwarts Legacy (2023) and Battlefield 6 (2025) have knocked it off its perch.
But the competition isn't over yet. Analysts are predicting that Grand Theft Auto 6 will take the top spot for 2026 when it launches in November. So NBA 2K27's reign might be short-lived.
As for Resident Evil Requiem, Capcom still has plenty to celebrate. It's the fastest-selling game in franchise history, hitting 5 million copies in just five days and 6 million within two weeks. In terms of dollar sales, it's one of the top five best-selling Resident Evil games in the US. It's also the best-selling physical game on PS5 for 2026, with Alinea Analytics estimating 1.3 million discs sold to date.
Here's the top 10 best-selling games for 2026 (physical & full game digital dollar sales): 1. NBA 2K27, 2. Resident Evil: Requiem, 3. 007 First Light, 4. MLB: The Show 26, 5. Crimson Desert, 6. Call of Duty: Black Ops II, 7. Forza Horizon 6, 8. Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream, 9. Lego Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight, 10. Pokemon: Pokopia.
So what do you think? Will NBA 2K27 hold the crown, or will GTA 6 steal the show in November? Let us know in the comments!
