Have you ever seen a video game ad so big it takes over a real city? That's exactly what's happening with GTA 6 in Miami right now.
Rockstar has put up a massive "welcome to Vice City" billboard on the Kaseya Center, home of the Miami Heat. The sign is costing a cool $1 million, with Miami-Dade county collecting $975,000 from the deal alone. Social media has been flooded with images and videos as pieces of the sign were airlifted onto the building throughout the day. It's currently facing straight up, so it might be designed for aerial viewing or will eventually be stood upright to be seen from the ground.
Fans have been glued to live city cam footage, watching the sign go up all day. Even from a distance, it's making quite an impression. This is all part of Rockstar's elaborate marketing plan for GTA 6, which is just two months away. The county is hosting the most "elaborate" displays, but other areas like Miami Beach and the city of Miami also have deals with Rockstar.
The marketing push comes despite protests from some local police members. Earlier, Rockstar's proposal for a big money takeover of Miami passed with local officials, even with that opposition. Clearly, the hype for GTA 6 is unstoppable.
Rockstar has been pretty quiet about GTA 6 since its big Netflix debut, only speaking up to warn modders away from creating cool content. But actions speak louder than words, and this billboard is a loud statement. It's a reminder that GTA 6 is one of the most anticipated games ever, and Rockstar is pulling out all the stops.
As the release date inches closer, expect more stunts like this. The game will not be eligible for the 'Big 5' GOTY sweep in the 2026/7 season, but that's unlikely to dampen excitement. For now, Miamians and fans worldwide are watching a virtual city come to life in their own backyard.
What do you think of this massive billboard? Will you be picking up GTA 6 when it launches? Let us know in the comments!
