Ever wanted to run a superhero dispatch desk from your phone? Dispatch is about to let you do exactly that. AdHoc Studio has announced that its superhero workplace dramedy is coming to mobile on December 9, rebuilt for touch and vertical play.
The best part? You can try before you buy. The first four episodes will be free at launch, and if you're hooked, the full edition of the game will cost $20. That's a pretty generous way to get a taste of the game that became one of last year's biggest hits.
If you're new to Dispatch, here's the setup: you play as Robert Robertson III, formerly the superhero Mecha Man. With his suit trashed and funds low, he takes a job at the Superhero Dispatch Network (SDN) as a dispatcher, directing superhuman resources to fight crime and save the day.
The mobile launch is just one piece of a big anniversary update. The deluxe edition is getting two new behind-the-scenes modes. Commentary adds over 16 hours of cast and crew commentary across two tracks, and different choices you make in the game will unlock different commentary. The cast track features Aaron Paul, Laura Bailey, Erin Yvette, and more.
Storyboard mode lets you experience the entire game through the original storyboard animatics, giving you a closer look at how AdHoc developed the scenes, performances, and visual storytelling. You can even stack the modes and enable commentary over Storyboard mode.
"Dispatch was only possible because of folks who believed in it enough to show up and do their best work," said Nick Herman, Co-Creative Director on Dispatch and COO of AdHoc Studio, in a press release. "So for the fans who made Dispatch a part of their lives, we wanted to give them more ways to experience the world they love, whether that's playing alongside the cast and crew, experiencing the entire game in its original storyboards, or hanging out together IRL at the wildest version of a Dispatch concert our finance team would sign off on."
Beyond the game itself, AdHoc is rolling out anniversary merchandise, a vinyl soundtrack, a physical edition of the digital comics, and a new hardcover book from Lost in Cult called Dispatch: Design Works, which explores the making of the game. There's also a one-night-only Dispatch concert on December 3 at Avalon Hollywood in Los Angeles.
So, will you be downloading Dispatch on your phone this December? What do you think of that free first-four-episodes approach?
