Metroid Dread Physical Copies Now Cost Over $100

Ever thought you'd see a Nintendo Switch game from 2021 selling for over $100? Well, Metroid Dread physical copies are doing exactly that.

Despite the lukewarm reception to Metroid Prime 4, excitement for Metroid Ravenous is building fast. Samus Aran's next adventure seems to pick up right where Dread left off, and that's got fans who missed Dread the first time scrambling to catch up. How far are they willing to go? Recent eBay sold listings show Metroid Dread creeping past $100, with some new, sealed US copies fetching as much as $170. The Special Edition? Even pricier.

It's a bit wild when you consider that Metroid Dread isn't exactly a niche title. It sold nearly 3 million copies as of 2022 and received strong reviews. But compared to juggernauts like Mario Kart, it's still more of an "underground" hit. And like many lesser-known Switch games, its physical run has gone out of print. That scarcity is driving up prices.

Of course, if you just want to play the game, you can grab a digital copy from the Nintendo eShop. In fact, after the Metroid Ravenous reveal, Dread shot to the top of the eShop charts. So you'd be in good company. But for collectors and fans of physical media, the hunt is real.

Nintendo hasn't announced any plans to abandon physical games, even as PlayStation leans into an all-digital future. Game-key cards might be a step in that direction, but it's clear that boxes and cartridges still hold a special allure for many players.
