The Witcher 4 Will Be Made by Humans, Not AI, Says CD Projekt

Worried that the upcoming Witcher 4 might be churned out by AI? You can breathe a sigh of relief. CD Projekt's joint-CEO, Michał Nowakowski, has made it clear that the studio is sticking with human talent for its games.

During CD Projekt's latest earnings briefing, Nowakowski acknowledged that AI is 'definitely becoming a thing in games development.' But he was quick to stress that the Polish developer is still 'predominantly using people' to craft its titles. In his words, AI is just a tool, like many others, that might lend a hand in certain areas—but it's not about to replace the creative minds behind the games.

'We're not planning to rely on AI making complete games,' he said, as reported by PC Gamer. That's reassuring news for fans who've been eagerly awaiting the next chapter in Geralt's world.

Nowakowski explained that CD Projekt creates 'very complex games,' and relying on AI would not be 'the right or ethical path to follow.' It's a stance that aligns with the studio's reputation for handcrafted, detail-rich experiences that have won over millions of players.

Of course, he didn't speak for the entire industry. 'Every studio has to make those judgments on their own,' he noted. But for CD Projekt, the human touch remains paramount.

So, what does this mean for The Witcher 4? Slated for a 2028 release, it's set to kick off a brand-new trilogy. And with Cyberpunk 2 and a multiplayer Witcher game also in the pipeline, CD Projekt has its hands full. But one thing's for sure: the team behind these projects will be human, through and through.

Are you glad to hear that CD Projekt is keeping AI on the sidelines for The Witcher 4? Or do you think AI could help speed up development? Let us know in the comments!
