Ever feel like you're too old for Fortnite but still get excited about cool gaming gear? That's exactly where I'm at with GameSir's latest drop. The brand just launched six new colorways of its X5 Lite and G8 Plus mobile controllers, and honestly, they look great even if you've never touched a Battle Royale in your life.
The X5 Lite comes in at $49.99, while the G8 Plus will set you back $89.99. Both are available now through GameSir's own store, and listing pages are live on Amazon (though stock was unavailable at the time of writing). Each controller includes a virtual item for Fortnite, ranging from gliders to emotes, so fans get a little something extra.
What's impressive here is that GameSir didn't just slap a logo on these things and call it a day. Take the black and green X5 Lite, for example. It sports a slick translucent smoke gray design with khaki green accents that look genuinely fresh. Even the brighter Peely Edition G8 Plus, with its bold yellow and blue, stands out. Yes, some designs are more subtle than others—the Peely version has the game's name stamped across the right grip and a banana-styled logo on the back—but if you didn't know these were collabs, you'd just think they were darn groovy gamepads.
So what's the difference between the two models? The G8 Plus gives you more room to work with, with extended grips for comfortable longer sessions. It also ships with a wireless dongle for PC use and connects easily to a Nintendo Switch, making it a solid all-in-one option for home and on-the-go play. Our own Rosalie even swapped out her Joy-Con for one, thanks to its Hall effect thumbsticks, extra back buttons, and ergonomic shape.
The cheaper X5 Lite keeps those durable sticks but in a smaller form factor—better for smaller hands, though it loses the back buttons. Here's the kicker for competitive players: the X5 Lite uses a physical USB-C connection, which means lower latency and passthrough charging to keep your phone juiced. Just note it's not compatible with PC or Switch due to the lack of wireless.
Both controllers stretch to hold most smartphones, with the G8 Plus fitting slightly wider (215mm vs 213mm), so even some gaming tablets under 8 inches are covered. Whether you're a Fortnite fanatic or just appreciate a good-looking controller, these are worth a look.
What do you think—are you picking up one of these, or are you holding out for a different collab? Let us know!
