FF7 Remake Trilogy Director Says Its Scale May Never Be Matched

Think you've seen ambitious game projects? Final Fantasy 7 Revelation director Naoki Hamaguchi reckons the remake trilogy might be the biggest one we'll ever get.

Speaking in a recent interview reported by Nintenderos, Hamaguchi opened up about the decade-plus remake project he's been steering at Square Enix. His take? The sheer scope of rebuilding Final Fantasy 7 across three full-scale games is something the industry probably won't see again.

"From the perspective of its impact on the entertainment industry, this remake trilogy is destined to be remembered for a long time," Hamaguchi said. "The original Final Fantasy 7 already had deep foundations, and the overall scale of this trilogy remake project is unprecedented."

He didn't stop there. In his view, it's hard to imagine another game project spanning three separate titles and matching this kind of scale ever being born again. That, he says, is what makes the Final Fantasy 7 Remake trilogy a true industry exception - and he's proud of it.

It's a bold claim, but you can see where he's coming from. This isn't just one remake - it's a full reimagining spread across three massive RPGs, each one built from the ground up. Few studios have the resources, the staff, or frankly the nerve to commit to something like that.
