Ever wanted to play on a PvP server in WoW: Forever but dreaded running into a certain streamer's army? You're in luck. Blizzard has announced a fourth server ruleset for the game's launch: role-playing-player vs. player, or RP-PvP for short. The news came via social media, with name reservations opening on October 27.
This new option joins the existing PvE, PvP, and roleplaying rulesets. There's also a Hardcore (permadeath) ruleset planned for before Spring 2027. The addition of RP-PvP is a direct response to community demand—players have been vocal about wanting it, and Blizzard listened.
Why does this matter? Blizzard's approach to Forever is one massive server per ruleset rather than multiple servers. That means there was only one PvP server, and it's where many streamers and their audiences are flocking. One of those streamers is the controversial Asmongold, whose Alliance guild, Olympus, already boasts over 74,000 players on the beta. Many players want to avoid streamer drama but had nowhere else to go if they wanted PvP. Now they do, albeit with some RP-focused rules.
Interestingly, Blizzard originally seemed hesitant. Just last week, senior game designer Josh Greenfield said on the WoW: Forever podcast that the team had no plans for RP-PvP, citing past experiences where such realms didn't follow the same successful trajectory as Grobbulus in 2019. He also noted the RP community is "pretty small" and splitting it could hurt the critical mass needed for a healthy server economy and social interactions.
So what changed? Blizzard hasn't said yet—GameSpot reached out for comment but hasn't heard back. Regardless, the community is celebrating the win.
WoW: Forever launches on November 4, less than two weeks away. Blizzard continues to roll out new info, including the return of a questing tradition in the new Riverglades zone and big changes to racial abilities. In an interview with GameSpot, the team also teased endgame and future plans.
