Ever wondered what Hideo Kojima's next spy game will feel like? You're not alone. In a recent Koji10 podcast episode, Kojima himself addressed the plot of Physint, and he made one thing clear: it's not just Metal Gear with a new coat of paint.
"It's about spies, but I want plenty of new ideas and a different kind of spy action. It's quite different," Kojima said. He acknowledged the obvious overlap with Metal Gear—espionage, intrigue, all that good stuff—but stressed that Physint is its own beast. So don't expect a simple rehash.
Details on Physint have been scarce. We know Bill Skarsgård, Charlee Foster, and Don Lee are in the cast, and that the story ties into the Cold War somehow. But beyond that? Radio silence. Kojima's latest comments are the most substantial update we've had in a while.
Speaking of Skarsgård, his casting came together in a surprisingly organic way. The collaboration sparked through Woodkid, the composer who worked on the Death Stranding 2 soundtrack. Woodkid is friends with Skarsgård and had him over one day. Skarsgård noticed piles of Kojima Productions merch and was baffled to learn Woodkid had worked with Kojima. Turns out, Skarsgård is a huge fan. Woodkid connected the two, leading to a meeting. "He came to Japan, we had dinner, and I went to Sweden," Kojima recalled. "I pitched him the game, and he agreed to it." Just like that, a high-profile partnership was born.
Kojima also mentioned that the silhouette tease he used to build mystery around the casting worked—it prompted all sorts of wrong guesses. That's classic Kojima, keeping fans on their toes.
Physint's road hasn't been entirely smooth. Sony dropped out as publisher not long ago, and Microsoft stepped in instead. Kojima has confirmed that Skarsgård's scans are done (of course), and while the story is written, the script isn't finished yet. So we might be waiting a while for more concrete details.
Meanwhile, Metal Gear Solid's Snake actor has expressed hope that Konami will continue the series, even without Kojima involved. But for now, all eyes are on what Kojima is cooking up next. Will Physint redefine spy action games, or will it feel like a familiar mission? Only time will tell.
