Marvel's Wolverine is out now, and the internet is doing what the internet does: arguing about it. At the center of the storm is Liam McIntyre, the actor behind Logan, and he's taking the heat with a shrug.
Since launch, debate has swirled around the game's character designs, art style, and gameplay. A chunk of players feel McIntyre's Wolverine looks and sounds quite different from the classic take, especially Hugh Jackman's version, and they haven't been shy about critiquing his face and overall look.
McIntyre, though, seems completely at ease. Responding to players on social media, he said he's seen all kinds of intense reactions over his career and that they don't change how he feels about the project. His one real wish? That everyone just has fun with it. He also made clear he's genuinely proud to be part of the game.
If the backlash feels familiar to him, there's a reason. McIntyre previously stepped in to replace the late Andy Whitfield on the TV series Spartacus, a recasting that sparked plenty of fan friction at the time. As the show went on, though, he won a lot of those viewers over.
Taking on Wolverine means facing a whole new round of comparisons. On screen, the character is basically synonymous with Hugh Jackman, so any new actor stepping in is bound to get measured against him in both looks and performance. That's just the gig.
The game itself is splitting critics, too. Some outlets have praised its combat system and production values, while others find the gameplay a bit traditional. IGN handed it a 6, saying the fighting feels smooth but the overall experience lacks enough freshness.
