Did you catch that familiar face in the Night City crowd? Hideo Kojima is back, chooms. The legendary game director is reprising his Cyberpunk role in Edgerunners season 2, and we couldn't be more hyped.
Kojima will once again play Hideyoshi Oshima, the braindance director you might remember from Konpeki Plaza during The Heist in Cyberpunk 2077. That early mission had V sneaking into Arasaka's domain to steal a biochip, and Oshima was right there in the thick of it. Now, according to the official Cyberpunk: Edgerunners Twitter account, the renowned braindance director is making another appearance in Night City. Spotting a familiar face, chooms? 👀
The announcement dropped on October 19, 2026, and the internet went wild. CD Projekt Red co-CEO Michal Nowakowski tweeted, "Always a pleasure to work with Hideo Kojima." It's clear the studio loves having him around.
And honestly, maybe we should have seen this coming. Kojima recently teased on the KOJI10 radio show that he'd be making multiple cameos across various mediums. "Directors and others have asked me to [appear]. One is a big live-action movie and [the other] is a major anime title," he said. He also mentioned, "I don't like playing myself. That happens a lot. I'd rather play a detective or something." So playing Oshima again fits right in with his acting ambitions.
Of course, Kojima is still busy with games too. He's working on the horror title O.D. and Physint, a Metal Gear spiritual successor that emerged under the Xbox umbrella after being suddenly dropped from PlayStation in September. But for now, he's squeezing in some time in Night City.
Cyberpunk: Edgerunners season 2 starts streaming on October 20 on Netflix. If you're wondering whether the new season lives up to the hype, we've got a review ready and waiting for you. And if you're hungry for more anime, check out our picks for the best anime on Netflix.
