CD Projekt Red just gave us all a reason to say "wow" again. The Polish studio recently looked back at how it's kept The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt alive since 2015, and the numbers are honestly a little wild: 16 free content updates over the years.
That's not counting the paid stuff, either. The game also got two big story expansions, Hearts of Stone and Blood and Wine, which together pack enough content to basically be their own standalone game. And a third major story expansion is currently in the works, co-developed by CDPR and Fool's Theory.
On the technical side, CDPR didn't just let Geralt age gracefully. The studio rolled out a next-gen update for PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S that added new quests and gear inspired by The Witcher TV series, a fresh interface, and ray tracing. It also dropped REDkit, giving players access to the core tools of the game's engine.
Engineers kept the tech architecture updated too, bringing in modern image upscaling so the game still looks sharp on newer graphics cards. It's the kind of ongoing care that most single-player games never get after launch.
The final phase of all this long-term support is a full remake, which is set to launch very soon. The new version includes baseline visual improvements, ultra-high-resolution remastered textures, an improved physics model for object interactions, and a broader range of modern visual effects.
CDPR's strategy has made Geralt's story playable across multiple generations of hardware, and it's set an incredibly high bar for how single-player, story-driven games can be supported long after release. Not every studio is willing to keep feeding a game like this, but CDPR clearly committed.
So, are you planning to jump back into the remake when it drops, or are you still happily wandering around Skellige in the original? Let us know what keeps pulling you back to The Witcher 3.
