Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2 Brings Hideo Kojima Back to Night City

Did you catch Hideo Kojima's sneaky cameo in Cyberpunk 2077? Well, he's back for more. CD Projekt Red has confirmed that the Metal Gear Solid creator will reprise his role as Hideyoshi Oshima in the upcoming anime series Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2.

The news dropped on social media, with CDPR teasing that Kojima's part is more than just a blink-and-you'll-miss-it moment. He'll be playing "the famous braindance director who was at Konpeki Plaza in Cyberpunk 2077." If you played the game, you might remember stumbling upon him near a bar in Arasaka's Konpeki Plaza—it was an easy-to-miss encounter that wasn't tied to V's main quest.

Kojima himself shared his excitement on X/Twitter, posting a few pictures from his recording session. "I make a cameo appearance in the anime series Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2 as Hideyoshi Oshima, the character who appeared in the previous game," he wrote. The post was filled with emojis, showing just how thrilled he is to step back into the Cyberpunk universe.

In Cyberpunk 2077, Oshima was all about braindances—the in-universe tech that lets you experience someone else's memories. He chatted with V about his desire to create "real, raw human emotion" and asked if you had any pitches for him. His dialogue touched on combining happiness and melancholy, calm with anxiety—complex feelings he wanted to weave into better stories. It was a fun little moment for players who explored every corner of Night City.

Now, Oshima's love for braindance tech will carry over to the anime. Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2 premieres tomorrow, October 20, 2026, with all 10 episodes dropping at once. IGN gave the season a 9/10 review, calling it "Amazing" and saying it "delivers the gory, action-packed goods, even if it doesn't quite hit the highs of its predecessor."

Kojima is currently busy working on games like Physint and OD, but he still found time for this cameo. Earlier this month, he teased a few anime projects, and now we know Edgerunners 2 was one of them. We're still waiting to see the "big movie" he filmed, though.
