Askiisoft re-confirms the long-awaited Katana Zero DLC is still coming, now bigger than ever with over 30 new songs—but still no release date.

Katana Zero DLC Now 'Size of a Full Sequel,' Dev Confirms

Remember Katana Zero? The slick neo-noir samurai platformer that had you deflecting bullets and slicing through time? Well, if you've been waiting for that promised DLC, we've got good news and a familiar dose of frustration.

On October 22, Askiisoft's Justin Stander hopped on Bluesky to re-re-reconfirm that the Katana Zero DLC is still on the way—and it's grown massively since we last heard about it back in March 2021. How big? Apparently "the size of a full sequel." That's right, this isn't just a little add-on anymore; it's practically a whole new game. And if that wasn't enough, it comes with a soundtrack of over 30 new songs.

But before you get too excited, there's still no release date. No window, no vague "soon," nothing. Just the confirmation that it's coming. If that feels familiar, you're not alone—it's starting to give us serious Hollow Knight: Silksong vibes, with the developer regularly popping up to say "yes, it's still happening" without any concrete timeline. The last update we got was in April 2025, when Askiisoft assured fans it was "still coming" and "still free."

For context, Katana Zero first launched in April 2019. You play as Subject Zero, a sword-wielding amnesiac assassin who chats with a psychiatrist between bouts of bullet-deflecting and body-slashing. It's a wild mix of political intrigue, time-bending mechanics, and nightmare sequences that tells a compelling story about identity and suppression. GameSpot gave it an 8/10, calling it "bloody and brutal [with] a heartfelt tale that you shouldn't overlook lightly." The DLC was announced just one week after the game's release, which means it's been in development for seven years now.

Askiisoft promised "more updates" in that October 22 post, so hopefully we'll all get to take our clown masks off sometime in the near future. Until then, we'll just keep replaying the base game and dreaming of those 30 new tracks.

What do you think? Are you still hyped for the Katana Zero DLC, or has the wait killed your excitement? Let us know in the comments!
