Did you ever think you'd see another Hearthstone class? Well, it's happening. At BlizzCon 2026's Opening Ceremony, Blizzard announced that the Monk is coming to the card game. That's the first new class since the Death Knight in 2022, and it leaves only the Evoker as the lone class not yet in Hearthstone. The Monk won't arrive until March 2027, and we only got a short teaser, so gameplay details are still a mystery. More info is promised next year.
But that's not all. A new expansion called Reign of the Black Empire is on the way, and it's set 10,000 years in the past. The story focuses on the Black Empire and the struggle between the Old Gods and the Titans. If you're a lore junkie, this one's for you. Reign of the Black Empire releases on October 20.
And if you love narrative, the Journal is being transformed into The Journey. It's meant to give a more story-driven wrapper to the game, tying together expansions, modes, and limited-time events. As you play through Reign of the Black Empire, The Journey will grow, connecting quests, achievements, and more. It sounds like a cool way to make everything feel part of a bigger story.
On the gameplay side, there's a new keyword called Assemble. It lets you effectively merge two minions into one, similar to Magnetize. You can pick specific text from their descriptions to create new combos. That could lead to some wild synergies.
Plus, a new minion type called Aberrations was revealed. Their deaths feed the gods in some way. Aberrations will be specific to Battlegrounds, which is also getting a 2v2 main ranked mode. That's a big change for Battlegrounds players.
So, what do you think of the Monk finally joining the fray? Are you excited for a more story-driven experience with The Journey? Let us know in the comments!
