Final Fantasy Resonance: New Gameplay, Visions & Bosses Revealed

Ever wondered what it would be like to experience Final Fantasy: Brave Exvius as a full-fledged HD-2D adventure? Square Enix has pulled back the curtain on Final Fantasy Resonance ahead of its launch, giving us an exciting look at the upcoming turn-based RPG's world, battle systems, and endgame challenges.

Based on the first season of the hit mobile title, the story takes you through major regions like the mighty Zoldaad Empire and the magical city of Mysidia. Zoldaad is actively expanding its borders with mass-produced magitek and a growing airship fleet while holding the Fire Crystal, whereas Mysidia is a legendary civilization housing top-tier magic wielders and the Ice Crystal. You will follow familiar heroes Rain, Laswell, Fina, Jake, and Lid—plus allies like the Mysidian sage Sakura—as they clash with the Sworn Six of Paladia, featuring the likes of Veritas of Flame, Veritas of Earth, and Veritas of Light.

When it comes to combat, expect classic turn-based strategy loaded with Limit Breaks. The standout mechanic here is the Vision system, which allows you to summon legendary fighters into battle. If you manage to stagger all enemies in a single turn, you will trigger a cinematic Resonance attack backed by slick CG animation. As you strengthen your bonds with these Visions, you will unlock even more abilities for them. You can also upgrade their powers using magicite, but since the resource is exceedingly rare, you will need to think carefully about who gets powered up.

Your Vision roster includes both original Brave Exvius characters and mainline franchise icons. On the Brave Exvius side, you can summon Amelia, Camille, Wilhelm, Victoria, and Ayaka. If you want cross-generational star power, you can also recruit Firion, Onion Knight, Vaan, Lightning, Noctis, and Final Fantasy 16's Clive Rosfield to your team.

Need extra support during tough fights? You can summon Espers that stay on the battlefield for three turns before unleashing a parting super move. Carbuncle brings Reflect magic, Leviathan unleashes a crushing Tsunami, the armored Odin deals non-elemental damage with a chance to instantly kill enemies, and Bahamut scorches the arena with his signature Megaflare assault.

If you love checking off every single challenge, you will want to build the strongest party possible. The game features battles against the mysterious bladesman Gilgamesh and the notorious Ultima Weapon, a supreme test of preparation that will wipe your squad out in just a few turns if you aren't ready. Final Fantasy Resonance launches for PC and consoles on October 22. Will you be picking this up on launch day?
