Ever tried to reach a real human in a support chat and felt like you were talking to a wall? Now imagine that wall accidentally forwarding you strangers' conversations. That's apparently what happened to one Arc Raiders player, and the internet is having a field day with it.
According to a Reddit post from user a1vmp1, the Arc Raiders support chat "just sent me a BUNCH of other people's messages accidentally." The kicker? The messages appear to be ChatGPT prompt-and-response exchanges. One prompt read "Create a short response," followed by an interim line saying "ChatGPT said: Writing" before the actual reply. Another prompt asked support to "Ask screenshot of current skill trees," which produced a reply requesting a screenshot of the player's skill tree and available points. The pattern reportedly repeats across a chain of about 10 separate exchanges.
The player didn't mince words. "So if you can somehow push your way past the AI chat bots, you end up with a real employee using an AI chat bot," they wrote. "That's how you end up with mistakes like this happening." In a follow-up reply, a1vmp1 clarified they were user 762 in the chain. That user had complained about losing a full loadout of gear "within 20 seconds of spawning because of a game issue." The response they got apologized for the frustration and said lost items can't be restored, but feedback would be shared with the relevant team.
Here's where it gets extra awkward: when the original reporter ran that support message through AI-detection tools from Grammarly, Solvely, and GPTZero, all three flagged it as 100% AI-generated. The same went for another message reviewed. Embark Studios hasn't publicly commented, and the player hasn't responded to requests for more details.
To be fair, a big studio using AI somewhere in its pipeline isn't shocking, especially since Embark is already known for leaning on AI in more game-facing ways. But the reaction from Arc Raiders players wasn't really about the tech itself. Most seemed amused by the mix-up and annoyed by the presentation. Many are just tired of talking to robots when they need help.
There's a certain irony here too, since Arc Raiders is fundamentally a game about robots displacing humans. One player speculated "Someone's getting fired," though that seems unlikely given no sensitive info appears to have leaked. Another put it bluntly: "It feels particularly pernicious to have platitudes like 'we understand your frustration' when 'we' doesn't even exist here. There's no human that actually cares so the statement is worthless." They added, "I think I'd rather the minimum wage worker pretend to care than an LLM simulate it."
So what do you think? Does AI support cross a line when it starts leaking other players' tickets, or is this just the cost of doing business in 2025? Will you be keeping an eye on how Embark handles this one?
