Bloodborne Movie Producer JackSepticEye: I'm the 'Vibe-Checker'

Ever wondered what a YouTuber actually does as a movie producer? JackSepticEye just gave us the inside scoop on his role in the upcoming Bloodborne film.

Appearing on 100 Questions with Tom Simons, Seán McLoughlin—better known as JackSepticEye—explained that his producer credit isn't just for show. He described himself as a "vibe-checker" for the R-rated adaptation. When he's on calls with stakeholders discussing key elements like the vetting process and hiring, he speaks up and helps make decisions. "I say that my role is that I'm the one being like, 'This is a good idea, this is a bad idea, we shouldn't do this,'" he said. "But also I'm the one greenlighting who gets hired, and who we work with to make sure that vetting process is good."

And why does that matter? Because, as McLoughlin put it, "You don't want to bring on anyone who has no idea what Bloodborne is." In simpler terms, he's there to say, "Yeah, not that." It's a pretty crucial job when you're trying to bring a beloved, cryptic FromSoftware world to the big screen.

But don't expect him to push for a direct retelling of the game. McLoughlin made it clear he's not trying to shepherd the movie into becoming "the game," nor does he want it to "one up the game" or compete with it. Instead, his ambition is to "honor the universe that's there and tell as good a story as I can within it." That's a refreshing take for fans worried about a soulless adaptation.

This isn't just a paycheck for him, either. McLoughlin has previously said he's not trying to make a quick buck with the Bloodborne movie. Of course, if the film is a success, it stands to reason he'd benefit as a producer—but his passion for the franchise runs deep. He's even said that working on the Bloodborne movie is what he was put on this Earth to do. That's some serious dedication.

And Bloodborne isn't the only FromSoftware title getting the Hollywood treatment. A live-action Elden Ring is also in the works from director Alex Garland and A24. So it seems the age of Soulsborne cinema is upon us.
