WoW: Forever Survey Leaks 11 Potential New Classes

What if you could roll a Necromancer or a Tinker in World of Warcraft? That's exactly what an alleged new survey is teasing for WoW: Forever, the upcoming classic-style version of the MMO.

The survey, which was pushed to select players via Blizzard's Battle.net launcher, asks about 11 potential new classes. Blizzard has added four new classes to modern WoW over the years—Death Knight, Monk, Demon Hunter, and Evoker—but this survey hints at a much bigger shake-up for the vanilla experience. As usual, despite Blizzard asking participants to keep quiet, the details quickly made their way online, with content creators like Bellular breaking it all down.

The list includes some familiar faces reimagined for old-school Azeroth: Bard, Death Knight, Demon Hunter, Illusionist, Monk, Necromancer, Metalborn/Runemaster/Runeknight, San'layn, Tinker, Warden, and Witch. Three of these—Death Knight, Demon Hunter, and Monk—would essentially be new versions of existing classes, likely feeling very different from their fast-paced modern counterparts.

But it's the eight truly new classes that have everyone talking. The Tinker, for example, has long been requested for modern WoW. In Forever, it's pitched as the ultimate engineer, using mech suits and gadgets to tank, deal damage, or support allies. The Necromancer was originally planned for vanilla WoW before being scrapped, and this version seems inspired by Diablo 2's class, with abilities like Bone Spear and Corpse Explosion. Then there's the San'layn, vampiric beings who broke free from the Lich King, leaning into blood-based powers similar to retail's Blood Death Knight.

Two more classes steeped in lore are the Warden and Runemaster. Wardens are the iconic Night Elf faction known for imprisoning Azeroth's greatest threats. How they'd fit with the Horde is unclear, but the survey notes they'd open their ranks "out of necessity." Runemasters, infused with Titan power, use a rune system reminiscent of modern Death Knights to heal and fight—a mechanic originally meant for an early Runemaster class that was scrapped. The survey also lists them under alternate names like Metalborn and Runeknight.

Finally, some classes appear almost entirely new. The Bard is a healer/support that buffs allies. The Illusionist conjures creatures and objects to aid in battle. And the Witch uses dark powers like blood rituals and even old god magic to buff allies and destroy foes.

Will any of these make it into Forever? Only Blizzard knows, and they have, well, forever to decide. In the meantime, the beta is live until October 21, with full launch on November 4, bringing over 1,000 new quests, four new zones, an account-wide Legacy perk system, and more. What do you think—which class would you roll first?
