Blizzard: Diablo 4 Seasons Will Continue After Diablo 5

The seasonal content train keeps on rolling. Game director Brent Gibson told Icy Veins, "We are planning on supporting seasons as long as the community continues to show up for D4. Similar to what we have in D2 and D3. There are still people who play those games, and as long as you're showing up, we’re going to continue to be making content."

So what does that actually mean? If you've been loving the meaty seasons in Diablo 4 – like season 15, which basically remade legacy Diablo campaigns – you can expect more of that. But don't expect full-blown expansions. Gibson's comments suggest that once Diablo 5 arrives, Diablo 4 will likely shift to a maintenance mode similar to Diablo 2 and 3, where old seasonal themes rotate rather than getting brand-new content. That makes sense: updating two massive games with fresh storylines, regions, and items simultaneously would be a huge undertaking, even for a company as big as Blizzard.

It's not all that surprising, really. Diablo 2 and 3 still have active seasonal structures, and Diablo 2 even got a new class this year. So Diablo 4 sticking around in some form fits the pattern. The key takeaway? As long as you keep logging in, Blizzard will keep the seasons coming. But the days of major expansions are over.

Why is Diablo 5 happening instead of more Diablo 4 expansions? According to the project lead, it's all about the big guy himself: "We needed to give him his own game." So there you have it – Diablo is getting his due, and Diablo 4 will keep ticking along with seasonal updates.
