Ever feel like racing games are getting too easy? Well, Star Wars: Galactic Racer is here to crank up the challenge. The roguelite racer is out now, and according to Fuse Games CEO Matt Webster, it's asking way more from players than any racing game his team has made before.
In an interview with GamesRadar+, Webster explained that modern gamers can handle a greater cognitive load. "We are asking way more out of players in this game than I think we've ever done in a racing game with multiple boost things, pressing more than one face button at a time, switching up the abilities, and thinking strategically and tactically at the same time whilst traveling at 700 kilometers an hour and your eyes are on stalks," he said. That's a lot to juggle, but it's exactly what makes Galactic Racer stand out.
Fuse Games was born from multiple members of Criterion Games, the studio behind the legendary Burnout series. So it's no surprise that Galactic Racer feels like a spiritual successor to both Burnout 3 and Burnout Revenge, while also paying homage to Star Wars: Episode 1 Racer. The result is a high-speed, high-stakes racer that demands your full attention.
And tough? You bet. Even brushing a wall can cause your speeder to blow up. In the campaign, you only have three chances before you're eliminated and have to restart your run. That roguelite twist means every mistake counts, and you'll need to master the game's multiple boost mechanics and abilities to survive.
Despite the brutal difficulty, Galactic Racer has gone down a treat with fans. It's become one of the highest-rated Star Wars games ever, thanks in no small part to Fuse Games' racing pedigree. Oh, and let's not forget Ben Quadinaros—the game introduces "the best Glup Shitto ever," an annoying little dude who'll blow up your vehicle for fun. Fans absolutely love him, with one even saying, "George Lucas would shed a tear."
So if you're up for a challenge that tests your reflexes and your brain, Star Wars: Galactic Racer might be exactly what you need. It's fast, it's punishing, and it's packed with Star Wars charm. Will you be picking it up? Let us know in the comments!
