Uncharted 5: Everything We Know About the Rumored Game

Uncharted 5 isn't confirmed, but Naughty Dog says 'never say never.' Here's every clue, rumor, and quote about the future of the series.

Uncharted 5: Everything We Know About the Rumored Game

Ever since Uncharted 4 wrapped up Nathan Drake's story, fans have been begging for more. Is Uncharted 5 actually happening? Well, it's complicated. Naughty Dog hasn't announced anything official, but there have been enough hints and rumors to keep hope alive. So grab a treasure map and let's dig into everything we've heard so far.

Back in 2022, Shaun Escayg, a Naughty Dog veteran who worked on Uncharted 4 and The Lost Legacy, told GamesRadar that the team has a "never say never" attitude about making Uncharted 5. He said, "Uncharted is a franchise we love--that the studio loves. It's a world we want to see more of." That's not a confirmation, but it's definitely not a no.

Then in February 2026, Escayg posted a cryptic Instagram photo of a cannon in a tropical environment, captioned "research." Naturally, fans started theorizing that he was at Fort George in Trinidad and Tobago, researching for a new Uncharted game. It's rumored that merchants stored records and valuables at Fort George, which only fueled the speculation. Of course, it could mean nothing at all.

Most recently, multiple reports claimed Naughty Dog is working on a new Uncharted game, and it's not a remake. The reports say it's a brand-new entry, and Nolan North, the voice of Nathan Drake, could appear in some capacity. North himself said he's "110%" down to return if asked. "I think it would be one of the biggest games ever if they decided to do it," he said at Gamergy in Puerto Rico. "I always keep out hope."

But here's the catch: Naughty Dog has a lot on its plate. After cancelling The Last of Us Online in 2023, the studio said it had two single-player games in development. One is the new IP Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet, and the other is a mystery. Some think it's The Last of Us: Part III, others hope it's Uncharted. And if Uncharted 5 does happen, it might not even be made by Naughty Dog. Studio head Neil Druckmann previously said a different developer could take the reins, with Naughty Dog assisting to keep the "essence" intact.

Druckmann also famously said in 2016 that there was "no story left for us to tell" after Uncharted 4. But he acknowledged someone could pitch a prequel, and fans have wondered if a fifth game could follow Cassie, Nathan and Elena's daughter, after the events of Uncharted 4. The epilogue let players control Cassie, after all.

According to Insider Gaming's Tom Henderson, there was "some planning of an Uncharted 5" before the COVID-19 pandemic. No details, but it shows the idea has been kicked around. Naughty Dog chooses its projects based on passion, and Druckmann said Sony trusts the studio to pick what's next. So the door is open, but nothing is set in stone.

Will Uncharted 5 ever see the light of day? Only time will tell. But with rumors swirling and Nolan North ready to go, it's hard not to get excited. What do you think? Would you play a new Uncharted without Naughty Dog at the helm? Let us know in the comments!
