Call of Duty 23: Modern Warfare 4 has shot straight to the top of Steam's global bestseller list, and if you pre-ordered the digital edition, you can already jump into the campaign a week early.
The campaign early access kicked off on October 16 for digital pre-order customers. The full game launches on October 23 across PS5, Xbox Series X|S, PC, and Nintendo Switch 2. Notably, there's no PS4 or Xbox One version this time around, and it marks the series' first return to a Nintendo console since Call of Duty: Ghosts back in 2013.
Developed by Infinity Ward and published by Activision, the game comes in two digital flavors: the Standard Edition at 298 yuan and the Vault Edition at 493 yuan. One thing to keep in mind—it won't be on Xbox Game Pass at launch, and Activision hasn't said when or if it'll join the service later.
Pre-order players also get early access to the DMZ extraction mode on October 20, a first for the franchise. That's a nice bonus if you're itching to dive in before the masses.
On the multiplayer side, expect 12 core 6v6 maps at launch, including Kill Block, a map with dynamic layout changes. Two new modes, Hijack and Inflation, are also joining the rotation. If you're playing on PC, make sure you've got around 115GB of free space, plus a motherboard that supports TPM 2.0 and Secure Boot.
So far, the reception on Steam has been strong—the game currently holds a "Very Positive" overall rating. With the campaign already playable and the full launch just days away, momentum is clearly building.
