Modern Warfare 4 Finally Fixes Double XP Tokens

Ever popped a double XP token in Call of Duty, only to watch it tick away while you're stuck in a lobby or menu? Yeah, we've all been there. Well, Infinity Ward is finally putting an end to that frustration with Modern Warfare 4.

Starting at launch, double XP tokens will only count down while you're actively in a match. That means no more wasting precious minutes in pre-game lobbies where you can't earn any XP. Tokens typically last anywhere from 15 minutes to an hour, so this change means you'll get way more value out of each one. More time to actually rank up!

Infinity Ward confirmed the news on social media, and it's a huge quality-of-life win. Previously, tokens would start ticking the second you activated them, even if you were just sitting in a lobby doing nothing. Now, the timer only runs during gameplay, so every second counts toward your progression. And the best part? Your existing tokens will carry over and be usable in Modern Warfare 4.

This isn't the only fan-friendly change coming. Last week, the studio also confirmed a toggle that lets you turn off skins. So if you're tired of seeing someone's obnoxious outfit, you can switch it off and everyone will appear as default character models. It's a small thing, but it shows Infinity Ward is listening.

Of course, some fans are hoping these tweaks lead to bigger changes, like major adjustments to skill-based matchmaking. Whether that happens remains to be seen. But it's clear Activision is trying to win back goodwill as it heads into one of its most competitive launch windows in years.

Why the pressure? Call of Duty will have to go head-to-head with GTA 6 this fall, a game that's basically a black hole for media coverage, engagement, and spending. Whether that hurts Call of Duty in the long run is anyone's guess, but the team is clearly pulling out all the stops to keep players happy.
