Ever wonder how much it costs to build a massive new RPG from scratch? For Rebel Wolves, the answer is $40 million. That's the budget behind The Blood of Dawnwalker, the studio's debut title, and development kicked off back in 2022.
The studio, led by Konrad Tomaszkiewicz, has been quietly expanding ever since. In 2024, Rebel Wolves had 90 employees on board. Now, they've grown to 160 — a number Tomaszkiewicz calls "the most fitting for our needs." That's a serious jump, and it shows just how ambitious this project is.
So what does that mean for you? A $40 million budget puts The Blood of Dawnwalker in the upper tier of indie-AAA hybrids. It's not quite Call of Duty money, but it's way beyond your typical indie. That kind of cash means better production values, deeper systems, and hopefully a more polished experience when it finally lands.
The growth from 90 to 160 people also tells a story. Studios don't double in size unless they're ramping up for something big. With development starting in 2022, the team has had a few years to build out their vision. And with Tomaszkiewicz — a veteran of The Witcher 3 — at the helm, expectations are already sky-high.
Of course, a bigger team and a bigger budget don't automatically equal a better game. But it does mean Rebel Wolves has the resources to compete. They're not scraping by; they're building something substantial. And for players hungry for a new dark fantasy RPG, that's promising news.
We still don't know exactly when The Blood of Dawnwalker will launch, but the pieces are clearly falling into place. With 160 developers and a $40 million war chest, Rebel Wolves is playing for keeps.
What do you think — does a $40 million budget make you more excited for The Blood of Dawnwalker? Will you be picking this up when it drops?
