Did you catch The Last of Us Day this year? Naughty Dog's Neil Druckmann wrapped up the celebration with some juicy updates on the studio's projects, and it sounds like there's a lot cooking.
First, the big one: Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet, Naughty Dog's next game, won't get a full reveal until 2027. Druckmann said the studio will stay quiet for the rest of this year, but "in 2027, that changes. We'll fully reveal Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet and give you a proper look at Jordan's wild sci-fi adventure." He called it Naughty Dog's most ambitious project yet and asked for patience, especially after fans were frustrated by its no-show at the recent Sony State of Play. "There's an electricity around the studio right now as all the pieces come together, and we're stoked to finally unveil Intergalactic in all its glory," he said. "But…we need to cook for just a little bit longer."
On the Last of Us front, Druckmann clarified his recent tease that the studio was "not done" with the franchise. Turns out, there are two new projects in very early stages. "We have a couple of very exciting new projects in very early stages – so we can't say much about them at this point," he said. "I will tell you that both projects will expand the canon of The Last of Us beyond Part I and Part II." He didn't confirm whether either is a game, but he did emphasize how much the world means to the team: "The world of The Last of Us means a great deal to us, and we wouldn't return to it unless we had something meaningful to say. We believe these stories are worth telling."
Also, if you're a fan of the HBO series, note that the TV adaptation will wrap up with its upcoming third season. That's a bittersweet pill for fans who've enjoyed seeing Joel and Ellie's journey on screen.
Druckmann also thanked fans for helping raise over $11,000 for AbleGamers during the event. He closed with a heartfelt message: "We know it's been a long time since we've had much to share with you. We don't take your continued support for granted. We're working incredibly hard to make something worthy of your patience."
