Witcher 3 Remastered Out Now, New Expansion Songs of the Past Revealed

Did you wake up today with a sudden urge to replay one of the best RPGs ever made? Well, you're in luck: The Witcher 3 Remastered is out right now. But that's not all—CD Projekt Red also dropped a bombshell: a brand-new expansion called Songs of the Past is coming next year. Yes, you read that right. Twelve years after the original launch, Geralt is getting another adventure.

According to Karolina Kuzia-Rokosz, creative vision director at Fool's Theory (the support studio working on the expansion), it's simple: "We always wanted to say more about the people who are important to Geralt." She told VGC that the team felt there was still more to say about Geralt and his world. "It was a great opportunity to tell something new about already established characters and to show them from a different angle," she explained.

That different angle focuses on Dandelion, Geralt's loyal bard friend. In Songs of the Past, you'll visit Dandelion's home region of Lettenhove, where Geralt uncovers and slays some nasty pieces of work. It's a fully-fledged expansion, not just a small add-on. Kuzia-Rokosz emphasizes that it's "a richer story first and foremost," and that Dandelion himself faces some important stuff in his life. So expect plenty of character development alongside the monster hunting.

But wait, there's more mechanical goodness too. The expansion introduces a new chain weapon—something CD Projekt Red actually tried to implement in the base game but couldn't. Now, finally, you'll get to swing it around. It's a nice nod to the developers' original vision and adds a fresh way to dispatch foes.

Of course, the Remastered update itself is a big deal. It spruces up the visuals and performance, but fear not: the game's hilarious low-poly pigeons remain untouched. Fans rejoiced online, with one commenting, "Glory to low poly." It's those little quirks that make The Witcher 3 so beloved.

With The Witcher 4 on the horizon, it's clear Geralt's story isn't over just yet. Songs of the Past is shaping up to be a love letter to the characters we've grown to adore.
