BlizzCon 2026: All the Biggest Announcements and Games

Did you catch the BlizzCon 2026 opening ceremony? If not, you missed a wild 75 minutes packed with announcements for Blizzard's biggest games. From a brand-new StarCraft to Diablo 5, here's everything you need to know.

First up, Heroes of the Storm is finally adding a new hero after six years. Xal'atath is coming to the Nexus, and you can try her out this weekend. That's a big moment for a game that many thought was done adding characters.

Then came a surprise: a Diablo animated series is in development at Netflix. Blizzard president Johanna Faries made the announcement, teasing, "Diablo, I promise, is just the beginning. To our Overwatch community, to our Warcraft community, and who knows, perhaps even some of our other universes." That's a lot of potential for Blizzard fans on Netflix.

StarCraft is officially back, but not until 2030. Ubisoft veteran Dan Hay took the stage to announce a new StarCraft game, described as an open-world shooter. The cinematic trailer showed Dominion recruits training to be the best in the galaxy, but hours later, their remains were being scraped out of their warsuits. It's a much different form for the series, and we'll have to wait a few years to see how it plays.

Overwatch fans got plenty of love. Director Aaron Keller, wearing an incredible game-themed jacket, showed off a new animated trailer featuring Doomfist, Reaper, Widowmaker, and Sombra assaulting a prison from the Watchpoint Gibraltar map. The video ended with a tease of the ninth hero joining Overwatch this year: Doctrine, a stylish techno-vampire. Miranda Moyer and Ben Bell from the Overwatch team described Doctrine as a Support-class hero who wields a scepter and mixes vampiric and techno-powers. He can shroud enemies in darkness and use an "infuse" power to transform his next ability. Doctrine's Hero Trial is available for all Overwatch players later today. Plus, Sombra and Roadhog are getting big reworks soon, with Sombra becoming a Support-class hero, and a lot of content is planned for Season 5.

Diablo 4 had a massive showing. Deckard Cain is returning to Sanctuary on September 15, when Season of Hell's Legacy launches. The game is also coming to Switch 2 on the same day with the Diablo 4: Age of Hatred Collection. And at long last, you can play as an Amazon in Diablo 4, wielding her signature bow and a new javelin-class weapon, arriving in the first half of 2027. But that's not all: Diablo 5 is scheduled to launch in Spring 2029. The ancient Lord of Terror has returned and conquered Sanctuary. "What must you become, when the world has already fallen?" teased Tiffany Wat. Things look bleak, indeed.

Hearthstone got some love too. A new expansion, Reign of the Black Empire, launches on October 20, featuring a new Assemble mechanic that lets you fuse two cards together. The team says there will be some "pretty busted" combinations, with a pool of 250 cards to use it on. Also, the Monk class is coming to Hearthstone, marking the first new class in four years, along with a more story-driven journal.

Finally, World of Warcraft's Worldsoul Saga continues with Midnight - Eclipse. Holly Longdale and Ion Hazzikostas teased "all gas and no brakes" in the new major content update, which sets the stage for a showdown with Xa'latath. The cinematic trailer showed her on the verge of a serious power-up. And that's not all: The Last Titan was also teased. It's a lot to process, but 2026 is shaping up to be Blizzard's biggest year yet, just as Johanna Faries promised.
