NBA 2K27 Dunks on Madden NFL 27 in August Sales Charts

Did you really expect anything different? NBA 2K27 is once again the best-selling game of the month, according to Circana's August 2026 report. That makes it three Augusts in a row for 2K's basketball sim, which previously ended Madden's long reign atop the charts.

Madden NFL 27 didn't go down without a fight, though. The football title landed in second place, and its Kickoff Bundle version also charted at number four. So while it didn't snag the top spot, EA's gridiron giant still had a solid month with two entries in the top five.

Overall, August was a great month for new releases. Five of the top 10 best-selling games were brand new. Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls debuted in third, Star Wars Zero Company hit fifth, and Big Walk strolled into eighth. The rest of the top 10 included Halo: Campaign Evolved at six, the Switch 2 port of Elden Ring at seven, Mario Kart World at nine, and Splatoon Raiders at ten. Elden Ring's jump from 41st to 7th is particularly impressive, likely driven by the Switch 2 launch.

So how does this shake up the year-to-date charts? NBA 2K27 has entered the 2026 top 10, but it didn't dethrone Resident Evil Requiem, which remains the best-selling game of the year so far. Instead, 2K27 took over the third spot previously held by Crimson Desert. Other titles like 007 First Light and MLB The Show 26 held steady in second and fourth, respectively. The rest of the YTD top 10 includes Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 at six, Forza Horizon 6 at seven, Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream at eight, Lego Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight at nine, and Pokemon Pokopia at ten.

Things are bound to get interesting soon. September and October are packed with releases, and then GTA 6 arrives in November, which will almost certainly be a sales juggernaut. For now, though, NBA 2K27 is sitting pretty.
