Ever found yourself scrolling through YouTube comments and suddenly feeling all the feelings? That's exactly what's happening right now, as BioWare fans mourn the studio's reported closure by turning to the music and comments sections of their favorite games.
After Bloomberg broke the news that Electronic Arts is shutting down BioWare, fans flocked to iconic tracks like "An End Once And For All" from Mass Effect 3. The top comment, from user Lellianna, simply says: "Yes, we are here for the same reason." It's a gut-punch that captures the collective grief. Others shared quotes, like acbagel recalling the Citadel DLC: "Best times of my life were spent on that ship... It's been a damn good ride. The best." And M.A.R.Z_316 summed it up with dark humor: "'I should go.' -Bioware, 2026."
It's not just one video. A clip of the Citadel DLC ending has madara992 writing, "Thank you BioWare. For Everything." An 18-year-old mashup of the four versions of "Vigil" from the original Mass Effect now features TobiTheNomad's simple message: "Thank you BioWare…RIP." Over on Reddit's r/masseffect megathread, Helloyesthisisbat wrote, "My heart is broken for the community and for the folks who worked hard on ME4… to have it all end so unceremoniously absolutely kills me. This is the true 'wrong ending'." Another user, Ok_Focus1716, offered the Quarian farewell: "Keelah Se'lai Bioware."
Of course, there are angry comments too, mostly aimed at EA. Some acknowledge the studio's troubles long before this closure but still express sadness. And yes, there are the usual trolls, but they're not worth your time. What stands out is how many people turned to the music—tracks like "Sanctuary" from Jade Empire, "Suicide Mission" from Mass Effect 2, and "Leaving Earth" from Mass Effect 3 all have their own goodbye threads.
Beyond the music, it's the characters that made BioWare special. The three brothers in Jade Empire, HK-47 from Knights of the Old Republic, Commander Shepard and the Normandy crew—even Marauder Shields. We can revisit these creations whenever we want, but we'll never know what they've been up to since. That's the real heartbreak. Hopes for a new Mass Effect starring Liara, or a return to Jade Empire, are now dashed unless another company swoops in to buy the IP—if EA is even selling.
For now, fans are holding vigil the best way they know how: by booting up these games and remembering. As one commenter put it, "This may be the end once and for all for BioWare, but I, and many others, will continue to remember the studio through its games." So, what's your favorite BioWare memory? Will you be replaying any of their classics tonight?
