Gloria Victis Combat Falls Flat: Our Verdict

Gloria Victis may have gotten a second chance at life, but its combat system still struggles to land a satisfying hit, according to our latest hands-on impressions.

Gloria Victis Combat Falls Flat: Our Verdict

Ever jumped into an MMO expecting epic battles, only to find the combat feels like swinging a pool noodle? That's the vibe we got from Gloria Victis, a game that's had more lives than a cat.

If you missed it, Gloria Victis is that medieval sandbox MMO that was sunsetting — until it wasn't. It got a second sunrise, a rare comeback story in the MMO space. We previously had a pretty good time with it, and our earlier piece dug into its history and how it clawed its way back from the brink.

But here's the thing: when we returned to the battlefield for another round, the cracks started showing fast. The combat, which should be the beating heart of any PvP sandbox, just doesn't land. And we don't mean that in a good way.

You'd think a game built around medieval warfare would nail the feel of sword clashes and shield blocks. Instead, the fighting feels off — like the feedback loop between your inputs and what happens on screen is out of sync. For a title that leans so hard on player-versus-player skirmishes, that's a problem you can't ignore.

It's a shame, because Gloria Victis has a lot going for it. The comeback from sunset is genuinely impressive, and the game's history shows a dedicated team and community behind it. But all that goodwill can only carry you so far when the core combat doesn't deliver.

So where does that leave things? If you're a die-hard fan of the setting or the community, you might still find reasons to log in. But if you're coming for tight, satisfying melee combat, you may walk away frustrated. The second sunrise is real — but the fight itself still needs work.

Have you tried Gloria Victis since its revival? What do you think of the combat? Let us know in the comments.
