Ever wondered what Halo 7 could have looked like if Halo Studios had stayed at the helm? Thanks to a final newsletter from franchise writer Alex Wakeford, we now have a glimpse into the cancelled project's vision.
The newsletter, Canon Fodder, shared concept art and snippets for the seventh mainline Halo game, set on Zeta Halo. Among the intriguing details is a Containment Facility overseen by a submonitor named Adjutant Repose, which goes into lockdown when Reclaimers show up and the Flood inevitably break loose.
But the real eyebrow-raiser? A mention of an "ancient, terrible creature that once held dominion over the ring when it was designated Gyre 11." The facility uses timelock technology based on Forerunner knowledge and the Ancestor-San'Shyuum alliance's "time bolt" feature to cage this creature. Sounds like a boss battle for the ages, right?
Other concept art shows a Promethean Knight standing on a cliff above Zeta Halo after escaping underground labs, gazing out at an open field ripe for combat. It's classic Halo vibes—a soldier ready to dive into the fight.
The battle for Zeta Halo would have spanned diverse environments: vast snowy fields, deep jungles with Banished steel embedded in trees, and sand-blasted ruins once home to the Tudejsa. The imagery gives off serious Return of the Jedi energy.
With Activision now handling the next Halo game and Halo Studios shifted to a support role, we can only imagine what could have been. One thing's for sure: whatever comes next better be big, epic, and include at least one alien chilling on a mountain.
What do you think of this lost Halo 7 concept? Will you be picking up the next Halo game, wherever it takes us?
