Remember how rough last year was for Football Manager fans? Well, Sports Interactive is hoping you'll give the series another shot — and they're putting their money where their mouth is.
The studio announced on social media that Football Manager 27 will be free to play for five days, running from October 29 to November 3. That's right over Halloween weekend, so you can spend the spookiest days of the year doing something way less scary than dealing with a buggy match engine.
The best part? It's completely free for everyone. According to the official blurb, you'll be able to jump in across Steam, Epic, Microsoft Store, Xbox Game Pass and PC Game Pass. That covers basically every major PC platform, so no matter where you were planning to pick up the game, you can get involved.
Why the freebie? Let's be honest — FM26 was a mess. The move to Unity was seen as worthwhile overall, but a longer-than-usual development cycle (FM25 was skipped entirely) led to a glitchy game with missing features and mechanics that had been series staples for years. It now holds the unfortunate title of lowest-rated entry on Metacritic. Not exactly the kind of record anyone wants.
So this preview is clearly a confidence play. Sports Interactive wants everyone to see that things are different now — that FM27 is the course correction fans have been waiting for. And if you end up enjoying it, the timing works out nicely: the demo wraps up exactly one week before the full release, giving you plenty of time to get a pre-order in.
Hopefully, nobody winds up frightened by what they discover during those five days. Instead, it'll be the comfort people want during the scariest few days of the year. Fingers crossed, anyway.
Will you be jumping into the free FM27 preview, or are you waiting for reviews before diving back in?
