Thinking about pre-ordering Disney Dreamlight Valley's Cozy Edition for Nintendo Switch 2? Hold that thought. You might want to keep your wallet closed for this one.
The new Switch 2 Cozy Edition is now up for pre-order at $49.99 (via Best Buy), but here's the kicker: it's not even a game-key card release. It's just a download code in a box, exactly like the original Cozy Edition. And the extras? They're identical: 14,500 Moonstones, a cottage house cosmetic, and exclusive raccoon companion skins.
Meanwhile, the original Disney Dreamlight Valley Cozy Edition for Nintendo Switch is just $29.97 today. That's $20.02 cheaper than the Switch 2 version, and you still get the game, 14,500 Moonstones, an exclusive Cheshire Cat sweater, the cottage house and raccoon in-game cosmetics, plus some physical goodies inside the box.
What makes this even more frustrating is that the Switch 2 upgrade is free from the eShop. So if you're new to the valley, you can grab the cheaper Switch version, download the free upgrade, and get the exact same game with improved up to 60fps performance. You'll save $20, which could go towards the upcoming Keepsake Sea DLC (featuring Milo from Atlantis: The Lost Empire, no less).
Dreamlight Valley itself is absolutely worth playing, especially if you're a Disney fan who never grew out of it. Over the years, Gameloft's magical life sim has become a favorite for many, even more so than Animal Crossing: New Horizons. Hanging out with Goofy is just more fun, sorry Tom Nook.
But this Switch 2 release? It's just the previous Cozy Edition re-packaged with a higher price tag. When we heard Dreamlight Valley was coming to Switch 2, we hoped for a game-key release that included some DLC, like The Storybook Vale or A Rift In Time. Those expansions typically cost $29.99 each, so bundling them at a discount for new players would have been a great move. Alas, that's not what we got.
Unless you absolutely need every Switch 2 game box on your shelf (even if it's empty), we'd recommend avoiding this for now. Stick with the original Cozy Edition, download the free Switch 2 upgrade, and keep that $20 for something else. Your wallet will thank you.
