Ever been in a Call of Duty match, feeling unstoppable, only to get sniped from a dark corner by some camper? Turns out that camper could be Manchester City striker Erling Haaland. In an October 21 YouTube video, the Norwegian soccer star faced off against English rapper Harrison "Aitch" Armstrong in Modern Warfare 4, and he didn't hold back on his playstyle.
Early in the video, Aitch asked Haaland how he approaches CoD. Haaland's answer was brutally honest: "You know what, and this is a bit embarrassing to say, but I've been a camper my whole life. I'm that guy that you hate. [I'll] probably get some hate now, but it is what it is." Well, Haaland, you're definitely not alone in being hated for it.
Camping has always been a controversial tactic in CoD. The idea of sitting in a corner with a high-powered sniper like the DSR 50 from Black Ops or the M40A3 from CoD4 and picking off targets one by one goes against the fast-paced nature of the game. Sure, it might improve your accuracy, but it eliminates the skill of gunplay and turns matches into boring waiting games.
Modern Warfare 4 doesn't officially launch until October 23, but the official subreddit is already full of complaints about campers. Since the beta, players have been running into lobbies packed with them, and honestly, I'd be furious too. It's one thing to deal with campers in a random match, but knowing a professional athlete is one of them? That stings a little more.
We won't spoil how the 1v1 between Aitch and Haaland goes, but it's an entertaining watch. Expect plenty of screaming, camping, and screen peeking—plus Haaland's fresh buzz cut. It's worth a look if you need a break from your own camper-filled lobbies.
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 launches on October 23 for Nintendo Switch 2, PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S. If you preordered the Standard or Vault Editions, you've been playing since October 16. So, what do you think—does Haaland's confession make you hate campers more, or are you guilty of camping too? Will you be picking up Modern Warfare 4 at launch?
